“Keeping it Wild”The Devil Makes Three
The Devil Makes Three will be playing a benefit concert for the Putney Mountain Association’s acquisition of 144 acres on Holland Hill. This alt-roots acoustic string band, with deep ties to the hills of Putney, has just come off its tour with Willie Nelson and Alison Kraus. Known for their tight harmonies and nocturnal howls, The Devil Makes Three has been making crowds go wild at venues across the United States, Canada, and to sell-out crowds in Europe.

Pete Bernhard, who writes most of TDM3’s music, sees a connection wild land and the wildness inside of all of us. Pointing to government surveillance and the overuse of medication, Bernhard sees a need to protect “wild behavior and the wildness of nature.”

The 144-acre parcel that the PMA intends to purchase includes forest, marsh, fields and the only year-round stream in Putney Mountain Association lands. Located high on Holland Hill, the Hannum-O’Connor parcel not only connects to existing trails to Putney Mountain, it also extends the wildlife corridor along Windmill Ridge. The wildness of this region includes bear, bobcat, fisher, moose, and coyote. The hillside is also home to deer and migratory birds.
